Salman Rushdie Stabbed?
According to witnesses, Sir Salman, 75 years old at the time, was ready to deliver a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution when a guy seized the stage and started hitting him as he was being presented. The assault occurred while Sir Salman was being introduced.
After being assaulted by the suspect, the author, who had only just become a citizen of the United States, slumped to the ground. He was taken into prison after being restrained earlier.
“It happened very quickly; at first, we believed that he was repairing his microphone, but then we saw the knife. It was in the neck that he began stabbing him initially… Mr. Rushdie sprang to his feet and immediately began to run. After then, members of the crowd rushed the stage and surrounded the aggressor, holding him down until security arrived. It is difficult to believe. We are not yet over the shock.”
Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, said that a member of the state police saved the life of the author as well as the life of the moderator, who she stated was also injured.
Ms Hochul added: “He is alive, and has been transported to a secure location by helicopter. But here is a person who has spent decades speaking truth to power, someone who has been out there fearless, despite the dangers that have followed him his whole adult life. Here is someone who has spent decades speaking truth to power.”
A video of the aftermath of the incident that was uploaded on the internet showed a number of people rushing on stage while Sir Salman was being attended to.
It seems that a photo of Sir Salman that was going around social media showed him with his knees slightly lifted and someone pressing on his tummy.

According to Jeremy Genovese, 68, of Beachwood, Ohio, he arrived to the amphitheatre just as it was being evacuated, and he saw people “flowing out.”
He added that everybody were shocked, and a lot of them were crying.
Henry Reese, who works for the City of Asylum organisation, which runs a residency programme for authors who are forced to live in exile because they face the risk of being persecuted, was scheduled to talk with Sir Salman.
They were going to talk about the role that America plays as a haven for freedom of creative expression and as a refuge for authors and other artists who have been forced into exile.
